Have you heard of the New Year's Eve tradition of First Foot? I've seen it practiced in Southern homes but just recently researched it to create this spellcasting spread. First Footing is reportedly a Scottish tradition, although many other cultures utilize this ritual as a new year preparation. The First Foot is the first person to enter the home on New Year's day and a bringer of good fortune for the coming year. There are some guidelines for this tradition in order to bring in the best fortune:
You can use tarot or oracle cards for this. As a typical spread, choose your cards at random to find out what will likely manifest in terms of your overall new year vibration and various areas of life. You can also choose cards face up to reflect what you desire to manifest in these areas. You can keep the cards on your altar as a manifestation spell and place the other items (coin, bread, salt, whisky) on your altar as a symbolic connection to the First Foot tradition. Here are the cards I chose face up (from a personal deck I created) as a manifestation spell. I'm bringing in a boss attitude next year (Queen of Wands) and releasing the sad sack 5 of Cups energy. I'm focused on wealth and comfort (6 of Coins) and in my home life, I want to spend more time on healthy eating and exercise (Empress). I think the High Priestess is a great role model for my spiritual goals. I chose the Wheel of Fortune's funny, laughing character to bring in more fun and happiness next year. I'm also looking forward to finding a King who is sexy AF (King of Wands).

I have an opportunity to teach a local class. There was initial interest but not many people came to the info meeting. So I’m wondering if the class will run next year.
Numerical theme is 7 meaning I’m asking, “What path or action should I take?” This theme suggests I’m really asking should I teach the class at all. There are predominately RED cards suggesting YES. The first column of the Answer Spread shows the reason for the question and reiterates that interest seems to be waning or decreasing 5♦️little by little 3♦️. However the middle column shows receiving money 💰 6♦️during a period of rest 4♣️ which probably relates to the downtime of the holidays. The last column represents contributing factors. The King ♠️ is an authority figure or possibly relates to legal issues. However he’s covered by the Queen ❤️ so she gets her way. Someone in a remote position of authority may oppose the class but a friend or ally comes to the rescue. This Queen 👸🏾 is a pivot card and therefore the outcome may be completely up to her. Facing the 6♦️she’s patient and persistent and possibly generous too. UPDATE: The class did run, thanks to the generosity of one of the students who paid for someone else to attend. I was able to do the class with just the two of them. I did receive the money during the holidays. I think the King relates to the decision I had to make about whether to run an evening class too. I had interest but it came in a little too late and with no payments so I had to cancel the evening class. Learn to read playing cards like a pro with my online class... I just love this new deck pouch I got from the Society6 holiday sale. It fits my Spirit Animal Oracle deck perfectly.
What is your deck concept?
If you'd like to create your own deck but you're feeling stuck, sometimes it's because you haven't nailed down a clear deck concept. Of course, the concept can evolve as you go along but it helps to have a sense of direction. Also, the concept supersedes the artwork -- the purpose of artwork in an oracle deck is to help the reader understand the card message. You may find artwork that you wish to use as a basis for your concept but the artwork should always enhance your concept. Here are 8 questions to answer about your deck concept: (1) What type of deck are you making? tarot, oracle, Lenormand, etc. (2) What is the theme? Nature, witches, chakras, goddess, gothic, fairies, etc. (3) What need does your deck fill? (4) What type of message (if oracle)? prediction, guidance, self-discovery (5) Who will your deck appeal to? (6) How will users read it as an oracle? Card message, guidebook, Intuitively, Analytically, Symbolically (7) What kind of questions can your deck answer? Love, Money, Career, Timing, Physical descriptions, Locations, Past Life (8) What type of artwork are you considering? drawings, photos, digital, playful, serious At yesterday's Pull Pen Paint LIVE Kickoff, we shared our rituals for ending and/or beginning the year. Here's the ritual I shared for making a Life Path Visualization Board for the new year. The goal of the board is to have a visual representation of your year and of the tools and resources you need to get through the year. Step 1: Choose at random a card from a tarot deck (or my Life Path Cards) to represent your life path for the incoming year. Use a tarot deck with illustrated scenes so you can imagine you're stepping into the image and walking the path and/or becoming the character in the scene. This is your central card and is placed in the center. Step 2: Choose oracle cards (either at random or face up) to provide further clarification, guidance, or resources for your journey. These cards are placed around the central card. You can choose as many oracle cards as you like. There's no particular set of prompts. Just think of the questions you'd like to ask based on what you see in the central card. Step 3: Make the board your screensaver or wallpaper so you can look at it regularly. Meditate on it by walking the path of the central image. What do you encounter? Is the path rocky or smooth? What's in the distance? Look to the oracle cards as additional messages of support and guidance. Here's a list of the cards and prompts: Central Card shows my path is walking into a cave. Suggests shadow work in 2018, facing fears, and some isolation (Life Path Cards by me) (1) What do I need to surrender to walk next year's path? Surrender Low Self Esteem (The Power of Surrender Cards) (2) What question do I need to answer in 2018? Why Do You Want What You Want? (Journaling Cards for Magic + Adventure by Andrea Schroeder) (3) What chakra will I need to integrate the most on this path? Crown chakra - trusting in Divine Guidance (Chakra Cards by me) (4) What spirit animal can support me on this path? Hawk - vision (Spirit Animal Oracle by Kael Klassen) (5) What stone can support me on this path? Blue Lace Agate - self-expression (The Crystal Wisdom Oracle) (6) What pep talk do I need to walk this path? Dust Yourself Off And Try Again (Pep Talk Deck by me) It's that time of year for year ahead forecasts. I typically pull one card (playing cards, tarot or oracle) for each month of the new year with maybe an oracle card as the monthly theme. But this time I'm doing readings with dice. Each dice roll reveals a monthly theme or message. Here's what I got: January: 124 - you're making progress, step by step February: 146 - something old will be replaced with a new model March: 125 - a partnership is severed; separation or divorce may be in store April: 355 - prepare to take a short trip May: 112 - you're asking, "should I stay or should I go?" June: 116 - expect to start a new job or work assignment July: 246 - you're in the role of teacher sharing your knowledge with other August: 136 - legal matters need immediate attention September: 146 - something old will be replaced with a new model October: 125 - a partnership is severed; separation or divorce may be in store November: 144 - you're stuck in a rut; keep your eyes and ears open for new opportunities December: 222 - an attraction takes center stage What's interesting is that my lease is up in April so I may move to another area close by. I'm also hoping to land a job teaching (see July's message) reflexology at a new massage school that won't be open until June. It's unfortunate that some partnerships will be severed but I think I know what they are already. Check out my Ko-fi post to download your FREE copy of my book, Dice Divination: Three Methods.
