Have you ever thought of creating your own oracle deck? Have you been tossing ideas around but don't know where to begin? Would it be helpful to follow prompts and join a community of folks who are also creating an oracle deck? Create This Oracle Deck challenge is back again this March! Last year we had a blast creating our own oracle decks. Check out over 2,000 posts on Instagram from last year's challenge HERE. THE CHALLENGE I realize there is a bit of creative paralysis that interferes with ART-ing sometimes so I've developed a challenge to get past that obstacle. It's called #createthisoracledeck2018 challenge and it runs during March on Instagram. It's a way to create a unique, personal oracle your way. I hope it will also help you understand how to translate a symbol into meaning. For some of you, this might be the first step to creating an oracle deck you're ready to share with the world. In fact, there are several decks now published and available to the public that began with last year's challenge. Shown below: Inner Queen Oracle, Dark Moon Damsel Oracle, Inner Landscape Oracle, and Untamed Truth Oracle. THE PROCESS There will be a prompt each day for each card. Join in by following the daily prompts to create your own personal oracle deck. You can draw, collage, use photos or apps to create your deck. We'll do a total of 30 cards. On March 31st, you can show your entire deck! Please use #createthisoracledeck2018 so we can find your posts on Instagram. The intention of this challenge is to create a usable oracle deck without getting hung up on the details. That's why there are prompts and a time limitation of one day per card. WHAT YOU NEED ✨Cardstock, blank cards, index cards, etc. You can find blank card decks on amazon and makeplayingcards.com ✨Pencils & non-bleed pens and markers for drawing (rubber stamping is also a great idea) ✨Magazines, stickers, scissors and glue stick for collage ✨Apps like Tayasui Sketches, Enlight, ArtStudio, to make digital drawings ✨A journal for your guidebook THE PROMPTS Here are the prompts for Create This Oracle Deck Challenge 2018! I'm calling this year's challenge the mystic version because there are a few prompts related specifically to the divining and mystical arts such as life path, astrological sign, and tarot cards. You can also enroll in my FREE Create This Oracle Deck course too. It's where all of the challenge information will be compiled along with a few extras for inspiration. We begin March 1, 2018.

There are MANY options for creating your own deck that don't require you to draw or have any artistic skills. If you have a dream, desire, vision and concept for any deck, you can create it. Also, in my opinion, it's the concept that makes a deck come alive, not the illustration or artwork. Pretty pictures go on my walls. I don't need my oracle cards to be pretty. I need them to be powerful. I need them to be made with intention. I need them to answer questions I didn't know I had.
Join my FREE online course, Create This Oracle Deck, and stay tuned for the next #createthisoracledeck challenge coming March 2018. Have you heard of the New Year's Eve tradition of First Foot? I've seen it practiced in Southern homes but just recently researched it to create this spellcasting spread. First Footing is reportedly a Scottish tradition, although many other cultures utilize this ritual as a new year preparation. The First Foot is the first person to enter the home on New Year's day and a bringer of good fortune for the coming year. There are some guidelines for this tradition in order to bring in the best fortune:
You can use tarot or oracle cards for this. As a typical spread, choose your cards at random to find out what will likely manifest in terms of your overall new year vibration and various areas of life. You can also choose cards face up to reflect what you desire to manifest in these areas. You can keep the cards on your altar as a manifestation spell and place the other items (coin, bread, salt, whisky) on your altar as a symbolic connection to the First Foot tradition. Here are the cards I chose face up (from a personal deck I created) as a manifestation spell. I'm bringing in a boss attitude next year (Queen of Wands) and releasing the sad sack 5 of Cups energy. I'm focused on wealth and comfort (6 of Coins) and in my home life, I want to spend more time on healthy eating and exercise (Empress). I think the High Priestess is a great role model for my spiritual goals. I chose the Wheel of Fortune's funny, laughing character to bring in more fun and happiness next year. I'm also looking forward to finding a King who is sexy AF (King of Wands).
What is your deck concept?
If you'd like to create your own deck but you're feeling stuck, sometimes it's because you haven't nailed down a clear deck concept. Of course, the concept can evolve as you go along but it helps to have a sense of direction. Also, the concept supersedes the artwork -- the purpose of artwork in an oracle deck is to help the reader understand the card message. You may find artwork that you wish to use as a basis for your concept but the artwork should always enhance your concept. Here are 8 questions to answer about your deck concept: (1) What type of deck are you making? tarot, oracle, Lenormand, etc. (2) What is the theme? Nature, witches, chakras, goddess, gothic, fairies, etc. (3) What need does your deck fill? (4) What type of message (if oracle)? prediction, guidance, self-discovery (5) Who will your deck appeal to? (6) How will users read it as an oracle? Card message, guidebook, Intuitively, Analytically, Symbolically (7) What kind of questions can your deck answer? Love, Money, Career, Timing, Physical descriptions, Locations, Past Life (8) What type of artwork are you considering? drawings, photos, digital, playful, serious |
